Château Fontvert
Château Fontvert is located near the village of Lourmarin in the heart of the Luberon Mountains. The estate was founded in 1598 and was farmed by the same family for over three centuries, growing vines, olives, cherries, and truffles. In the 1950's, the Monod family purchased the property and began the process of rehabilitating the vineyards. After initially selling most of their production to the local coop, Jérôme Monod and his three sons decided to take all winemaking duties in-house in 1999, and since 2008, the 20ha of vineyards have been certified both organic and biodynamic. Vines are planted at the foot of the Luberon Mountain on hillside parcels giving a cooling effect to the vineyards, which, when combined with the limestone and sandy marl soils, helps retain natural acidity. All the grapes are hand harvested, and fermentations are exclusively with native yeast. One of the most progressive and exciting (not to mention crazy value) estates in Luberon today.
